Key facts

  • Main railway station: Udaipur City (UDZ)
  • Ahmedabad to Udaipur: about 260 km, 4–5 hours
  • Jaipur to Udaipur: about 395 km, 6–7 hours
  • Delhi to Udaipur: about 660 km, 10–12 hours by road

Udaipur is well connected, but it sits in the hills of southern Rajasthan, so the last part of any journey matters. Here is how locals and regular visitors get in.

By air

Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) at Dabok is about 22 km east of the city, around 40 minutes to the Old City by car. Direct flights connect Udaipur with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur and several other cities; routes change by season, so check the airlines.

From the airport, take a prepaid taxi or an app cab, or pre-book a pickup. See Udaipur airport to city for fares and tips.

By train

Most trains arrive at Udaipur City station (UDZ), about 3 km from Lake Pichola. Overnight trains run from Delhi, and there are direct services from Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and other cities. Autos wait outside; ₹100–200 gets you to the Old City.

Some trains also stop at Rana Pratap Nagar station in the east of the city. Check which one your ticket names.

By road

Udaipur sits on the main highway between Ahmedabad and Jaipur, and the roads are good.

Government and private sleeper buses run from all these cities. Private Volvo buses usually drop at the city bus stand or near Chetak Circle.

Driving in

If you’re driving yourself, don’t take your car into the Old City lanes around Jagdish Temple. They’re narrow and one-way. Park at your hotel or a public lot outside and walk. More on this in getting around Udaipur.
