Shooting in Udaipur: what's allowed

Read before you bring a tripod, a drone or a crew.

  1. Personal photos

Phone and camera photography is allowed at most sights. Some museums and galleries, such as the City Palace's Crystal Gallery, don't allow it.

  2. Commercial and pre-wedding shoots

Need written permission and a fee from the property. The City Palace complex is managed by the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation; protected forts like Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh need Archaeological Survey of India permission.

  3. Drones

Under India's Drone Rules, drones above 250 g must be registered on the Digital Sky platform, and you must check the airspace map before flying. Areas near the airport are restricted, and most heritage sites don't allow drones without permission.

  4. Temples

No photos inside sanctums. Eklingji and Nathdwara don't allow phones inside at all.

  5. People

Ask before photographing people, especially women, priests and children. Some performers expect a small tip.

  6. Tripods and gimbals

Often stopped at museum gates. Ask at the ticket counter before you set up.
